CheckHeatPump provides free, impartial tools and guides to help UK homeowners understand the real costs and benefits of switching from gas, oil, or LPG to a heat pump.

Heat pump adoption in the UK is growing — 125,037 were installed in 2025, a 27% increase year on year. But for most homeowners, the decision is still confusing. Grant amounts change, installer quality varies, and the internet is full of both overly optimistic and overly pessimistic claims.

Our aim is to give you honest, data-backed estimates before you talk to any installer. We want you to arrive at those conversations informed, not sold to.

What we are

• A free tool and information resource for UK homeowners
• Independent — we do not sell heat pumps or earn commission from installers
• Based on publicly available data: DESNZ statistics, Ofgem guidance, industry surveys
• Updated regularly as grant amounts, energy prices, and policy change

What we are not

• Financial advisors — our cost estimates are indicative, not quotes
• An installer referral service (yet — quote comparison is coming soon)
• A substitute for advice from an MCS-certified installer who has surveyed your property

Sources and accuracy

Cost data is drawn from published industry surveys, DESNZ Heat Pump Statistics, and Nesta research into heat pump costs. Energy prices use the Ofgem price cap. Grant information is sourced from GOV.UK and Ofgem. We review and update the site whenever prices, policy, or grant amounts change.
